Prince Snookers UK Retailers with Free Release of Planet Earth CD

Prince has angered several British retailers by giving away his new album Planet Earth in the tabloid newspaper Mail on Sunday. Already facing declining CD sales, many retailers are publicly criticizing the move by Prince. Paul Quirk, co-chairman of the Entertainment Retailers Association said, The Artist formerly known as Prince should know that with behavior like this he will soon be the Artist Formerly Available in Record Stores . He added that the move was yet another example of the damaging covermount culture which is destroying any perception of value around recorded music. In other words, Quick believes if the Entertainment Retailers Association can’t make money off the music, it has no value to “them”.
